Joji - Solaris Tour - 2026

Commissioned by FRAY Studio, I designed and built three real-time visual systems for the Solaris Tour 2026.
A live stage-camera feed was transformed in real time and displayed on the front screen, while the three screens behind it displayed pre-rendered generative material. The live and pre-rendered elements were designed symbiotically, responding to one another and the music as a single composition.
I developed the effects as reusable components and built all three TouchDesigner networks from the ground up, creating the live camera processing and generative material as parts of the same visual system.

VHS signal processing
The first system used a custom VHS component built from eleven shaders. Analogue errors moved from subtle instability to rolling frames and heavy static in response to the music.
The processed camera feed was mirrored vertically across the curved front screen, while abstract shapes cycled through feedback loops on the three surfaces behind it. The symmetry tied all four screens into a single composition, drawing focus towards the centre of the stage and preserving the visual balance from every viewpoint.

frequency modulation
The second system transformed the live feed through sparse vertical lines, accompanied by horizontal structures across the rear screens. The lines twitched and shifted like a broken oscilloscope, moving from cold blue to deep purple as the track developed.
The effect was created with my Frequency Modulation component, completely rebuilt as a GPU-driven system to deliver the visuals in full resolution whilst maintaining a stable frame rate.

Circular modulation
The third system concentrated all visual content on the curved front screen.
A custom-built version of my Frequency Modulation component transformed the live feed through a circular modulation pattern, centered around the elevated platform, slowly reacting to the music in real time.
The three smaller screens remained entirely black, leaving space for the lights and lasers to shine through.
